A patient who has been on several medications for a long period of time without any improvement in their depression may be a good candidate to get started on Spravato®. Esketamine, or Spravato®, is derived from ketamine and makes powerful antidepressant relief available to be delivered intranasally, similar to a common nasal decongestant. Spravato® is FDA-approved to treat depression in combination with an oral antidepressant. The best way to find out if Spravato® is right for you is to talk to your healthcare provider.

Your healthcare provider will review your medical history and discuss potential side effects and interactions before prescribing Spravato® to you. PsyCare offers esketamine therapy, and this novel therapy for treatment-resistant depression can be combined with other treatment modalities, such as antidepressants, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), or other therapies. If it is determined that Spravato® is the right treatment plan for you, your treatment days can be mapped out and your appointments can then be scheduled.

Enrollment in REMS is required by the FDA and is a way to keep track of any serious side effects you may experience. Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) also helps ensure the medication is administered properly and by authorized providers. Your healthcare provider will walk you through the steps of completing the patient section of the Spravato® REMS Patient enrollment form. Once this step is completed you may begin receiving your treatments.

Spravato® treatments start off being administered a couple of times each week. They gradually taper off as time progresses. It’s important to stick to the treatment schedule so make sure your calendar doesn’t have any conflicts.
